A Dunedin man who took police on a 60km chase up to Palmerston may have been wondering why he just could not shake them off.
While fleeing north, he had neglected to take off his electronic monitoring bail bracelet which was reporting his every move directly to police, Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said.
At 2.45pm yesterday, police spotted the 39-year-old disqualified driver in Stuart St, central Dunedin.
Then officers attempted to stop the man in Helensburgh Rd, he took off at speed, Snr Sgt Bond said.
As he fled, police were able to track his every move thanks to the bail bracelet around his ankle.
He headed north up State Highway 1 and police began to deploy spikes while he was on his journey.
Eventually, his wheels were spiked south of Waikouaiti — however, he continued on.
He continued north, driving dangerously and swerving around the road, and managed to clip another vehicle at low speed near Palmerston.

The man continued north, driving on his rims, until his vehicle was inoperable.
He eventually came to a stop at the intersection of Horse Range and Factory Rds about 3.30pm.
The man was arrested without further incident and was charged with wilful damage for trying to break off his bail ankle bracelet, reckless driving, driving while disqualified, and failure to stop.
He was remanded in custody without plea on the charges this morning and would appear again in the Dunedin District Court later this month.
