One person is dead after a crash on State Highway 1 north of Invercargill this morning.
Police were called to the scene, on the highway between Woodlands and Dacre, about 8.10am.
It was initially reported that the crash involved serious injuries, but in an update shortly after 4pm police confirmed one person had died at the scene.
The highway was closed for much of the day but has now reopened.
However, motorists were still asked to avoid the area and told to expect delays.
