Trial over, feedback in — let the analysis begin

A game of hopscotch and faded road markings are all that remain of a three-month active transport trial in Queens Dr.

A Dunedin City Council spokesman said to date 1494 online submissions and a handful of handwritten submissions had been received on the trial, which finished on Sunday.

The 1.8km section of Queens Dr and Braid Rd was closed to motorists to trial a pedestrian and cyclist-only area, which could be made permanent.

A comprehensive engagement report was expected to be presented to the council within the next two to three months, the spokesman said.

‘‘Any future council decision will be informed by evidence gathered during the trial, including public feedback, usage data, transport impacts, safety considerations and operational and maintenance implications.’’

A final submission total was not yet available.

‘‘Given the volume of submissions, we are unable to provide detailed responses at this stage, as all feedback must first be processed and analysed.’’

The trial was budgeted at $15,100. When asked, the spokesman did not say what the trial had cost.

The council thanked those who provided feedback.
