New Zealand fashion designers are turning their hand to another form of visual art in order to raise funds for a Dunedin charity.

Designers Charmaine Reveley, Tanya Carlson, Christina Perriam, Kathryn Wilson and Tamsin Cooper are all sketching or painting a picture which shows the inspiration behind their summer collections, for Gala 09.

The gala will be held on November 13 at the Mercure Hotel.

The works will be auctioned, with proceeds going to Artsenta, a Dunedin-based shared art studio for people within the mental health community.

Ms Reveley said she was good at art at school, finishing top in the country for painting in her final year.

For the gala, she had decided to do a charcoal sketch of Taiaroa Head on paper, as it represented the seafaring theme of her summer collection.

"It has been good to sit down and have some time away from the fabric," she said.
