International performers the B-52s and the Proclaimers will be joined by New Zealand's Dave McArtney and the Pink Flamingos at the Edgar Centre on December 9, for a one-off concert during a national tour.

"The B-52s really wanted to play in Dunedin. The two groups decided where they wanted to play on this tour," Frontier Touring Company publicist Maria Robinson said yesterday.

"It's going to be a really fun bill."

The B-52s last played in New Zealand in 2002. The American band had a string of international hits in the 1980s and 1990s, such as Rock Lobster, Planet Claire and Love Shack.

Scottish twins Craig and Charlie Reid last brought the Proclaimers here in 2004.

Their hits include I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) and I'm On My Way.

They are due to release their most recent album, Notes And Rhymes, on June 19.

Frontier Touring Company New Zealand manager Brent Eccles said he visited Dunedin last week.

"It was a case of neccessity being the mother of invention. The Town Hall was booked, so we had to look around for another venue that would hold 3500-4000 people," he said yesterday.

"We're planning on bringing other concerts to the Edgar Centre, too."

He declined to give details of the planned concerts.

Edgar Centre manager Russell Lundy said the Lion Foundation Arena had a capacity of about 4000 people.

"It's very exciting, because we've been working on this with Frontier Touring for about 18 months . . . and have been encouraging them to bring something to Dunedin," he said.

Tickets are $92.50 from Ticket Direct.

• The Otago Daily Times and the Frontier Touring Company will be giving away double passes to the concert.
