Every parent boasts about their baby being the cutest in the neighbourhood and Dunedin mother Divya Adhia is no exception.

But the 30-year-old now has the evidence to back up her claim.

Her 4-month-old daughter Khrisha Ramakrishnan has won the Otago Daily Times Baby Times 2016 Otago's Cutest Baby Competition.

''One of my friends put her baby in the competition and she encouraged me to put Khrisha in as well.

''I didn't do it to compete. It's just we wanted the public to see them in the paper. We were quite excited about that.''

Despite quelling her competitive side, motherly love boiled over when she learned  Khrisha had won the competition.

She was trying hard not to brag about her baby yesterday, but after winning the competition, it was very difficult, she said.

''My baby is definitely beautiful. Every baby is cutest to their mother.

''Now I can say my baby is the most beautiful. She is the cutest.''

Khrisha won the competition with 400 votes. Second place went to Nathaniel Cookson, of Dunedin, with 260 votes; and Dunedin twins Ryder and Austin Young were third with 234 votes.

Each of the winners received a prize pack which included goods from Rhuger, Sleep Drops, Clip Joint Hairdressing and the Otago Daily Times.

ODT marketing executive Caroline Walker said 271 entries were received in the competition, and during the voting week (July 28 to August 4), nearly 12,000 votes were received and there were 62,000 visits to the competition web page.

''Otago's cutest baby competition is one of the ODT's most popular competitions and attracts a great deal of interest from all over the region,'' she said.
