'Bitter Sweet' top play

Actors and their plays from Dunedin and Invercargill will represent the South in the South Island one-act play finals after taking top honours at the provincial final in Balclutha at the weekend.

The Park Players, from Logan Park High School, with their production of Bitter Sweet, was judged the best overall play.

The other top act was the play Double Tap, performed by the Southern Players group from Southland Boys High School.

Dunedin-based director Hilary Norris analysed and judged the plays at the South Otago Theatrical Society's clubrooms on Saturday.

A society spokeswoman said a full house was treated to four hours of Shakespeare, drama, comedy, young love, and teenage triumph and adversity.

In her closing remarks, Ms Norris said the acting had been of an extremely high standard and it was hard to pick the three plays to progress to the South Island finals in Dunedin on June 5 and 6.

Two plays from the Park Players and the production from the Invercargill school were selected.
