Dunedin Horticultural Society show manager Neil Judd examines a bloom at the Autumn Flower Show at the St Kilda Bowling Club yesterday.

The room was filled with numerous entries of all types of flowers, fruits, bonsais, vegetables and anything else that could be plucked from the garden.

The autumn timing of the show did not limit contestants.

One of the more unusual blooms to be presented at the show was a bright spring daffodil.

Mr Judd said it was good to see the children’s section filled with entries.

Warrington School had their students make a cacti bowl, which was an "excellent display".

"Thirteen children entered, which was fantastic.

"If children value plants and growing them for the garden, and for eating and for decoration, yeah, we sow the seeds for them feeding themselves in the future," he said.
