Emergency services were summoned for a man bobbing in Otago Harbour after he ran out of petrol.
Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond said police received reports of a 36-year-old man in a boat drifting in the vicinity of St Leonards Drive and Blanket Bay, about 6.30pm yesterday.
Search and Rescue and the Otago harbourmaster attended to tow the man back to dry land.
The incident served as a reminder to bring communication equipment, life jackets and enough petrol to get back to shore, Snr Sgt Bond said.
