Book sale prepares for another big year

Ravenous readers and bargain seekers will be able to browse 2500 boxes of books at the annual Star Regent Theatre 24 Hour Book Sale this Friday.

Book sale co-ordinator Alison Cunningham said the sale, now in its 39th year, was a real Dunedin ''icon''.

''There are people who come from all over the country.

''Some rang us the day after last year's sale asking when this year's was.''

The majority of the books available were fiction, but Mrs Cunningham said there was a good range of books about architecture this year.

The sale also attracted collectors looking for books which were out of print, particularly in the science fiction genre.

''People don't give science fiction away. The only way people can get them is to come to something like this.''

Local professional and amateur musical acts will be performing throughout the 24 hour event, which runs from noon tomorrow to noon Saturday.
