A crane lifted each pre-decorated piece of the festive tree carefully into place.
The lighting of the tree will take place on Saturday at about 9.30pm as part of a family-friendly event that starts at 6.30pm.
Dunedin’s 24th annual Santa Parade takes place on Sunday.
Starting at 3pm, the parade heads south from the corner of Queen and George Sts, through the Octagon and finishes in Moray Pl beside First Church.
The parade will be followed by a family concert in the lower Octagon.
