A commuter bus caught fire in Dunedin today and left a 200m long oil trail.

The bus to Brockville caught fire in Stuart St just before 3pm and stopped outside KFC Roslyn on Taieri Rd after leaving an oil slick behind it.

St John treated a passenger on the bus for smoke inhalation.

The oily lane on Stuart St was closed and traffic was down to one lane.
