A witness said the pilot appeared to be unhurt and walked away from the landing at the Taieri airfield.
Aero club chief flying instructor Joe Calder said he could not comment as the crash was under investigation.
In a statement this evening the the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said it was "aware of an incident involving a light training aircraft at the Otago Aero Club in Mosgiel this morning".
"The sole occupant was a student pilot; they had a hard landing which caused the aircraft to bounce and land on the nose wheel.
"The student was not injured, and the Aero Club has filed an incident report with CAA. The CAA will be taking no further action with regards to this matter."
