The Go Bus Dunedin depot has the equipment to potentially save lives.
It is one of seven depots around New Zealand to have an automated external defibrillator installed.
Go Bus managing director Calum Haslop said the aim of installing the defibrillators was to look after the health and wellbeing of company's staff.
``We recognise that we have a fairly old workforce and that we have fairly large depots around the country where a number of our people will be present at any one point in time and felt that it was a responsible thing to do to bring this in as an added health and safety measure, should we have any issues in the future,'' Mr Haslop said.
Members of the public can also use the defibrillator if needed and while the Dunedin one has not been needed so far, there was an incident in Christchurch that required one.
``I don't think in the end they had to use it but it was nice for them to have it as a precaution.''
The defibrillators could be located via the AED locations app, which shows the nearest machine.
A defibrillator is used when a person appears to be having a cardiac arrest. The machine can be used to restore the patient's normal heart rhythm.
