Dunedin's Cadbury factory will soon be the company's only manufacturing plant in New Zealand, with its plant at Avondale, Auckland, winding down.
New Zealand managing director Matthew Oldham told the Otago Daily Times yesterday that, after two years of restructuring, the company would soon be left with a Dunedin production staff of between 700 and 750 and an Auckland sales, marketing and administration staff of 150.
The changes, expected to be in place by the end of the year, include 140 redundancies in Dunedin and 125 at Avondale.
The $69 million restructuring will mean some products previously made in New Zealand will be made in other parts of the world.
When the installation of new equipment is completed, Dunedin will be the "centre of excellence" for Roses, Milk Tray and Continental chocolates, Turkish Delight, Jaffas, Pebbles, Marshmallow Eggs, Chocolate Fish, Pineapple Lumps, Snowballs, Fudge Duets and Milk Chocolate Caramels.
Products formerly made in Dunedin that are being made in Australia are Moro, Crunchie, Perky Nana, Fredo, chocolate blocks, Cadbury Dairy Milk, Energy, Energy Scroggin and Black Forest.
Former Dunedin products being made in England are Creme Eggs and Curly Wurly.
