The crash that left a woman in Dunedin Hospital on Thursday happened after she missed the turnoff to Dunedin Airport, police say.
The woman involved in the crash near Allanton told the Otago Daily Times she was "in good spirits" following the accident.
Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said police were called to the Allanton-Waihola Highway near the Allanton Bridge, south of Dunedin, at 9.19am on Thursday.
A 27-year-old woman, from out of town, was travelling south from Dunedin to the airport when she missed the turnoff.
She was looking out for a spot to turn around and put on her indicator as she stopped in her lane on State Highway 1 to turn right into a driveway.
A car behind her overtook her vehicle using the right-hand lane and after it had passed she started to turn.
However, a truck travelling south two cars back also overtook the woman in the right-hand lane, hitting her vehicle on the driver’s side.
The woman was transported to Dunedin Hospital and an investigation was ongoing, Snr Sgt Bond said.
The woman, who declined to be named, said following the collision she had to be cut out of her vehicle by firefighters.
The highway was closed in both directions after the crash but reopened shortly before 11am on Thursday.
