
The clinic said about 16 people had booked in for the free "Dental Care for Carers" day, organised by Lumino The Dentists and Carers NZ. Lumino clinics across the country took part, including another Dunedin clinic, Knox Dental.
Mr Madill said he had not gone to the dentist for a routine check-up for a long time, but had had emergency work done.
He had young children with disabilities and did not have much time to look after himself.
His wife went last year and recommended the service to him, he said. Practice manager Sheree Barker said the dentists carried out checkups, and also did anything that needed to be done if they could do it on the day.
"When you have a skill like they do it’s good to be able to give back to people," she said.
Three dentists at the clinic were doing the voluntary work.
