The Otago Girls’ High School student is heading to the Aerobics World Championships in Prague this month with her duo partner, Stasa Tucker.
To wish her good luck, her sister, Immy Morey, 19, has given the 15-year-old her New Zealand representative jacket from when she went to worlds in 2021 and 2023. She was set to go to the championships last year in Brazil before it was canned because of flooding.
"I feel really proud," the older Morey sister said.
"It’s like a piece of me is going with her. Because I can’t go with her."
She said it was an emotional moment watching Lucia perform her world qualifying routine at the FISAF International Pacific Open Competition in Lower Hutt.
"I actually bawled my eyes out because of how proud I was."
She had pushed her little sister and her partner work harder and develop mental fortitude during their training.
Lucia said she was counting down the days before heading off.
"I’ve got the routine down, its just about getting out there now."
She was excited to live up to her sister’s legacy and was keen to make her proud.
