Bright, pretty and tall young things have been put through their paces in the hope of securing a spot in Dunedin's iD Fashion Week.

The official casting event at Aart on St Andrew yesterday attracted 64 models, including many new faces.

They were required to walk, with music and without, for the panel of selectors which included Otago Polytechnic's Margo Barton, a fashion week committee member, Sarah Munro from Company of Strangers, Aliana McDaniel, owner of model agency Ali McD and Margi Robertson from NomD.

Of the 64 models who did the walk, 42 girls and six or seven boys would make it through to the final cut and join some of the more regular, experienced models.

Event manager Paul Smith said the selectors were looking for the right look and walk to showcase the designs for the shows.

It was positive so many new young faces were keen to give it a go, he said.

''It's great they are putting themselves out there and giving it a go. You never know where you might end up. It can be launching pad for a potential new career.''
