Cellphone woes continue

The frustration for some Spark customers continued yesterday as the glitch in its cellphone service remained.

However, a Spark spokeswoman hoped a normal service would resume today.

Some Spark customers continued to have problems sending and receiving text messages yesterday, the spokeswoman said.

''Some are experiencing delays, texts are taking longer than the normal time we would expect them to be delivered, and then there are some customers whose texts are not coming through.''

Spark customers had been complaining about the fault since the company performed a planned software upgrade to its text platform on Saturday night.

She did not know if undelivered text messages yesterday would be delivered or not.

''We sincerely apologise to customers affected,'' she said.

She could not put an estimate on how many customers were having problems yesterday but believed it was a ''small number'' across New Zealand.

The glitch prompted a flood of social media complaints yesterday, including scores of posts on the Otago Daily Times Facebook page.

Stacey Barker said when she sent texts from her Spark cellphone, the recipient, a Vodafone customer, received blank messages.

Dani Tackney said neither of the two texts she sent to her mother yesterday were received.

Several people said they were ''frustrated'' by the glitch and many Spark customers said they wanted it fixed immediately.

''I'm sick of it,'' Spark customer Sylvia Rowe said on the Facebook page.

Larnz Kyle concurred: ''I'm over people not receiving my txts.''

Sarah Pont wanted Spark to compensate its customers for the service fault.

''At what point are they going to compensate customers for this shocking service? Like a responsible business.''

The Spark spokeswoman said it had not compensated customers for similar faults in the past, but would discuss concerns with ''individual'' customers.
