The Otago University Students' Association recreation centre has been reopened as contractors complete finishing touches on a $2 million refurbishment.
OUSA recreation manager Debbie Coulter said the Albany St building, which had been closed for renovations since the end of last year, was reopened this week.
The centre, formerly known as the clubs and societies building, had been updated for the ''21st century'' and work included making meeting spaces more ''flexible'', upgrading heating and lighting and generally making the building more inviting for students, Ms Coulter said.
''It was well overdue for a bit of TLC, having not been touched for a generation,'' she said.
Other work included upgrading the building to meet the latest health and safety requirements.
Contractors were still completing finishing touches, which were expected to be completed in about a week, she said.
OUSA general manager Darel Hall said the work was expected to cost $1,957,796.
The refurbishment had taken longer than expected, as it was previously hoped building would be completed in time for O-Week.
