Everything but the kitchen sink was for sale at Emmy award nominee and internationally renowned composer and producer Trevor Coleman's house on Saturday.

Coleman and his partner Ika Peuckert opened the doors to their St Clair home in a bid to sell or give away most of their possessions before moving to Seville, in Spain, in July.

Many of the musician's instruments were up for sale including a baby grand piano, and guitars and amps.

Coleman said the move, which the couple were calling an ''adventure'', was prompted by changes in circumstance.

''We are just at a point in our lives where our kids have moved out of home and we have more freedom to go places.''

He would carry on being a composer and producer in Seville.

''I've been going there for the past four years and I've made some good contacts there with musicians which I really really love.''

The musician was born in Dunedin, but had spent time in the United States and Germany in the 1980s and 1990s before returning to Dunedin in 2000 to compose film music and perform jazz and improvised music.

Despite the move, Dunedin would always be home, Coleman said.

''I don't think we are abandoning anything.

''Really, we are just going on an adventure.''

A concert or farewell gathering was likely to be held before they left, he said.
