An arborist trims the last of eight Lombardy poplars at the request of telecommunications company Kordia, which owns the transmission tower near Anzac Ave.

It is understood the trees were reduced in height in part due to concerns they were attenuating the signal strength between the tower and nearby Forsyth Barr Stadium.

Based on their recent growth rate, the trees were expected to return to their previous height in as little as five years.

A Kordia spokeswoman said the trees were trimmed ``to ensure the site is able to effectively transmit key linking and safety of live broadcast services to the region''.
