A Dunedin finance company has given a "substantial'' amount of money to support a spa pool to be built at the Taieri Aquatic Centre.

MTF Dunedin South owner Tony Gow said he gave the money to be the first "cornerstone partner'' in the bid to get the proposed centre built in his hometown of 31 years.

Mr Gow did not wish to publicly disclose the amount.

"Mosgiel is growing and needs a new pool.''

The proposed spa pool is designed to fit about 20 people.

Mrs Mosley said the money from Mr Gow boosted the fundraising total to more than $600,000.

"It's really exciting to have them on board.

"We need these cornerstone partners and can't raise it all selling lolly cake and raffles.''
