Council workers offered extra day off for wellbeing

Dunedin City Council staff have been offered an extra day off for "midwinter wellness".

The day was to acknowledge staff efforts during a particularly challenging period and it would need to be taken by the end of July, council chief executive Sandy Graham said.

It would need to be scheduled with managers to avoid disruption to the organisation and there was no option for staff to cash it in, she said.

It had to be taken or forfeited.

Ms Graham said the offer had been agreed by the council’s executive leadership team, "who want to provide tangible support for our staff and their wellbeing after a particularly unrelenting period for everybody".

"We are proud of our staff, who collectively deliver amazing results for our organisation and the entire city, despite the challenges."
