Two Dunedin pharmacies and a number of commercial premises have been targeted by burglars in the past few days.

Inspector Matt Scoles, of Dunedin, said the Mornington Pharmacy was broken into overnight. He could not say what was taken specifically, but drugs were typically targeted in pharmacy robberies.

An unsuccessful attempt was also made to break into the Balmacewen Pharmacy on Saturday night.

Another six commercial premises across Dunedin were also targeted in the past few days.

Insp Scoles said the burglaries were a reminder for people to be aware of any unusual activity, especially at this time of the year.

"It's a timely reminder that it's cold out there at night, and anybody sloping around that looks suspicious, probably is suspicious.

"So if anybody sees any suspicious activity - particularly around the industrial and commercial zoned areas around town - give us a call.''

Dunedin police (03) 471-4800, Crimestoppers 0800-555-111.
