Council waste and environmental solutions education and promotions officer Catherine Gledhill said the first neighbourhood recycling hub facility in Moray Pl opened more than a year ago and the second in Vogel St opened about nine months ago.
They were installed for inner-city residents because they did not have access to kerbside recycling.
‘‘The success of the two sites has been proven by the volumes of recycling collected in that period,’’ she said.
‘‘Up to May 2018, 18.5 tonnes of glass and 18.3 tonnes of other recycling had been collected.
‘‘We had to remove 425kg of non-recyclables — about 1% contamination — which is low.’’
The hubs were designed to celebrate and complement their local surroundings and the feedback had been positive, she said.
The council had also offered residents the use of reusable bags, made from coffee sacks and car seatbelts, with information about recycling on the inside.
Residents had to show proof of address at the civic centre to get one.
Ms Gledhill said the council would like to add up to four more recycling hubs.
