A woman was attacked by a dog while delivering prescription medicine in Dunedin yesterday.
Dunedin City Council environmental health and animal services manager Ros MacGill said animal control staff launched an investigation after a dog bit a woman in Brighton.
Police called animal control to Bedford Pde at 1.40pm.
A Labrador-cross dog was taken from the house and was in the care of animal control.
The dog had not been recorded as previously biting anyone, Ms MacGill said.
The dog owner and the victim would be interviewed before any further action was taken.
Paul Larson, the owner of Larson's Pharmacy in Green Island, said a female staff member, aged in her early 20s, was delivering prescription medicine to a house when a dog rushed her and bit her on the leg.
‘‘She was in shock,'' Mr Larson said.
The woman, who had been following the delivery instructions provided to her, received puncture wounds to her leg.
She returned to work yesterday afternoon after visiting a doctor for a tetanus injection, he said.
Senior Constable Fred Jansen, of Green Island, said the dog rushed the woman after she entered a gate.
‘‘She went in there, boom, got bitten, screamed and ran off.''
A St John spokesman said the woman suffered a minor injury and was treated at the scene.
●A woman in her 70s was seriously injured in an attack by three dogs in Christchurch earlier this week.
A Christchurch City Council spokeswoman said the three registered shar pei-collie cross dogs were seized by the council and would be held until a decision was made on whether to proceed with prosecution.
They did not belong to the victim, the spokeswoman said.
