Firefighters were called to free a duckling from a drain in the Dunedin suburb of Roslyn this morning.
The call to Fire and Emergency New Zealand was made by members of the public who saw the bird with its mother in the predicament in Nairn St.
A fire officer, who did not want to be named, said other people had managed to free the mother duck when the fire service arrived to reunite the pair.
