Dunedin student badly hurt in fall from wall

A Dunedin student was flown to the Burwood spinal unit in Christchurch after suffering serious head and neck injuries when he fell from a 5m stone wall in London St.

"A 27-year-old male was located by a member of the public about 11.30pm on Friday. He was unconscious and had serious head injuries," Detective Sergeant Rob Hanna, of Dunedin, said yesterday.

"He was taken to Dunedin Hospital where it was discovered he also had serious neck injuries and he was transferred to the spinal unit in Christchurch."

It is not thought anyone else was involved in the incident, he said.

"From a scene examination, it appears he has fallen from a wall on London St.

"There is no indication or suggestion of foul play or that anyone else was involved."

The man had been drinking, although his state of intoxication was unknown, Det Sgt Hanna said.
