Dunedin ZineFest organiser Spencer Hall (right) shows Dunedin resident Chris Green (left) how to create his own zine during a workshop at the Dunedin Public Library yesterday. Zines are independent, non-profit, self publications which are usually photocopied.

Mr Hall said they related to the personal interests of the publisher and were about creative freedom, possibility, subversion and making something out of pure passion. The festival will be officially launched this evening at the Glue Gallery in Stafford St with guest speakers including David Merret, of Landrover Press, and will continue tomorrow (10am-6pm) with exhibitions and further workshops.
