Bayfield High School student Miles Hockey, 16 (left), holds a cup and her classmate Lucy Van Heezik holds a bowl at the Peninsula Art Exhibition.
Bayfield head of learning area arts Sophia Darling said the exhibition was a celebration of the school’s backyard with 10 schools from around the Otago Peninsula — including Macandrew Bay School, Tahuna Normal Intermediate School and Bayfield Kindergarten — displaying art at it.
Prizes from the Dunedin Public Art Gallery, Bellamys Art Gallery and Monarch Wildlife Cruises & Tours were on offer for the entrants.
The theme for the exhibition this year was a Pablo Picasso quote — "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up".
Former Bayfield teacher Rene Lammers was judging the contest and there would be a prize-giving tomorrow with child-friendly drinks and nibbles and the school’s jazz band performing.
The exhibition is open until 5.30pm on Friday at the school’s hall.
