Dunedin Chinese Scholars and Student Association chairman Dr Hu Zhang said yesterday’s event had been "very successful" and it was great to have it back.
The last time it had been held in person was in 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic struck, Dr Zhang said.
The celebration, held at Toitu Otago Settlers Museum and Lan Yuan, Dunedin Chinese Garden, marked the Moon Festival, also known as the mid-autumn festival, with dances, music, tai chi and food.
About 100 moon cakes, which were a symbol of Chinese culture, had been produced to mark the occasion, Dr Zhang said.
Despite the weather being less than perfect, it had been fantastic to have the Chinese community back together again.
The event was well attended.
It was organised by the Dunedin Chinese Scholar and Student Association and the Otago Chinese Students Association.
Dignitaries included Dunedin Mayor Aaron Hawkins and Embassy of the People's Republic of China vice-consul general Zhai Xingfu.
The event was also a celebration of the National Day of the People's Republic of China, which will be observed on Saturday, Dr Zhang said.
