A total of 90 Drua supporters touched down at Dunedin Airport on a 737 MAX 8 charter flight from Fiji yesterday — marking the first time Fiji Airlines had flown into the airport.

Dunedin Airport business development general manager Megan Crawford said the visit was a very special occasion and had strengthened their relationship with Fiji Airlines.

Talks with the airline began last year, she said.

"I think we could all see the possibilities of bringing something special to life for the Fijian Drua fans, but working together to make it happen is an outstanding result," Ms Crawford said.

"We work hard to advocate for our region in the aviation industry and this charter flight is an example of how our relationships can deliver great outcomes for our community.
