Fire crews work to contain a 100-litre diesel spill outside Bunnings Warehouse, in Dunedin, yesterday after a truck's fuel tank was punctured when the vehicle sideswiped a parked trailer.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand (Fenz) spokesman said one appliance attended the incident near the intersection of Otaki and Strathallan Sts about 4pm. Otago Regional Council staff also attended.

It was not known whether any of the spilled fuel flowed into nearby drains, the Fenz spokesman said.

The driver of the TNL truck said his vehicle's tank hit the parked trailer as he attempted to turn into a freight depot. The damaged tank had a capacity of 300 litres but was less than half full, he said.
