Thieves have stolen about 10cu m of firewood worth $700 and a $3000 wood splitter from the Gladfield Golf Club.
Senior Sergeant Al Dickie, of Mosgiel, said the people involved had cut a chain to enter the premises and used a large vehicle or made several trips to take the wood sometime between last Tuesday and Saturday.
Someone had also entered a yard in Gladstone Rd in an unsuccessful attempt to take a rotary hoe, he said.
"We believe there could well be a link there.''
"Thefts of firewood are occurring across the Coastal Otago area and police would like to hear from members of the public with any information about suspicious handling and or sales of firewood,'' he said.
There had also been sporadic burglaries and thefts of diesel and farm equipment across the Taieri area in recent months, particularly around Momona, Berwick, Outram, Henley and Waihola, Snr Sgt Dickie said.
