University of Otago postdoctoral student Dr Htin Lin Aung is happy after a coconut noodle soup and cupcake fundraiser yesterday raised $1988.60 for flood victims in Burma (Myanmar).
Dr Aung, who is from Burma, said while his family and friends were not affected by the monsoon flooding, ''that doesn't mean I can sit back and relax here''.
''These flood victims, they have no means of supporting themselves. Even one small contribution would make a big difference to these flood victims ...''
Monsoon flooding earlier this month in Burma has killed more than 100 people and displaced more than 1.3 million.
