The Dunedin Fringe Arts Trust wants to give away $25,000. The money has been provided by Creative New Zealand to encourage the development and presentation of new work for next year's festival.
"The Dunedin Fringe is an opportunity for artists and creative producers to present innovative and exciting new work to a supportive and enthusiastic audience," festival director Paul Smith said this week.
"The funding is a vote of confidence by Creative New Zealand in the festival and will help us generate at least a dozen exciting events that will add depth and vitality to our programme."
The 2013 Fringe will be the 10th time the festival has been held in Dunedin since it was established in 2000.
The festival originally preceded the biennial Otago Festival of the Arts, before becoming a stand-alone annual event in 2009.
Applications for funding must be lodged by October 15. The deadline to register an event is November 9. An artist information seminar will be held at 5.30pm on Monday at the Fortune Theatre.
