The experienced group that will gain director experience at Dunedin City Holdings Ltd (DCHL) and subsidiary firms is not what the word intern typically conjures.

Recipients of the director internships Adam La Hood, Dean Fraser, Shelley Chadwick, Rei Ishikawa, Kate Hesson, Jamie Cargill and Rowena Davenport were announced yesterday.

For the duration of the year long scheme, they will spend 12 to 15 hours a month gaining experience either at DCHL companies, or at the holding company itself.

The unpaid roles will start next month.

Mr La Hood, who is the chief financial officer for Cook Brothers Construction, said he was slightly unsure about the term ''intern'' at first.

''I was a bit uncomfortable with it, but I'm excited about gaining experience from quite an experienced board.''
