When Dennis Kirkpatrick, owner of Jimmy's Pies, received a phone call from actor Ryan Richards asking for permission to use the Roxburgh pie business in his play A Boy Wonder, the pie master was ''flattered''.
Richards plays Jimmy, scout leader and Jimmy's Pies' owner, which rings true for the real›life owner of the business, who was also a scout leader in Roxburgh for 18 years.
''This story came out of my personal experiences and I was a big Jimmy's Pies fan,'' Richards said.
Richards, when a child, spent many holidays in Millers Flat and visited Roxburgh for his favourite pie, mince and cheese.
Richards ate a Jimmy's pie on stage at the Roxburgh Town Hall on Saturday night and will eat a few more in Dunedin at the Fortune Theatre from this Thursday to Sunday.
