Great ball of fire

Artist Trudy Lane stands in front of a projection of the sun at her Urban Dream Brokerage event yesterday.

From this evening until July 1, at 23 Princes St,  projections will be shown live from a Dunedin Astronomical Society  solar telescope set up on  Otago House,  and once the sun sets, another set up in Dresden, Germany, will take over.

That telescope was sourced through contacts of the astronomical society. Ms Lane said if it was cloudy, she would project images from Nasa’s Solar Dynamics Observatory, which is in orbit around the earth.

The project came from a comment by a friend that "all energy comes from the sun".

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

You can help us continue to bring you local news you can trust by becoming a supporter.
