Hair goes in aid of trip

The head of maths at Bayfield High School, Jo Long, yesterday sacrificed her hair once again, to raise money for a five-week trip to Germany by German language pupils.

Pupils made a gold coin donation for a chop at Mrs Long's hair, raising about $50.

It was the third time Mrs Long had her head shaved to raise funds for trips of this kind.

"My family and friends think I'm nuts, but I knew it would give the kids a kick," she said.

German teacher Sarina Zinke was grateful for Mrs Long's help.

She and the German pupils had raised about $2000 so far, and aimed to raise $8000 by the end of next term.
