The promise of sunny skies, stalls galore and ice cream by the truckload drew a big crowd to this year’s Mosgiel Party in the Park.

Hundreds of people headed along to Memorial Park for the event, which returned to the site after two years at Peter Johnstone Park.

The large crowd was entertained throughout the day by several performers on the main stage, as well as a variety of market stalls, bouncy castles, face painting and plenty of food options.

Festival of the Plain chairman Ian Chalmers said the event was started by a group of people who wanted to promote Mosgiel and put on something for children to enjoy.

It began about 20 years ago, and also served as a fundraiser to buy new equipment for the park.

"It’s sort of grown over the years," he said.

The move back to Memorial Park was down to it being more "user-friendly" and having more of an atmosphere, he said.

"They’re much happier here, I think."

He was chuffed with yesterday’s weather — but then, he pointed out, "it’s always nice weather in Mosgiel".
