Cranes are gathering at the new Dunedin hospital building. On the inpatient building site, excavation is nearing completion, and the team is gearing up for the start of piling works.
More than 300, 12m-long pile casings have been delivered to the site during the past two weeks, about half of the total required.
Two 160-tonne cranes have arrived as part of mobilisation and are working to unload the casings and prepare equipment across site.
A larger "piling" crane is also on site and will hold the hammer that drives the piles into the ground.
Meanwhile, steel assembly continues on the outpatient building site, with the contractor team progressing west towards the mid-point of the site.
After completion of the steel assembly, Tray-dec - a steel sheet that will sit beneath the poured concrete floors — will be laid.
Holes will be cut into this sheeting to allow for the services that run between the floors of the building. This includes electrical and plumbing.
