Aotea Security technician Albert Fremlin adds a camera to the CCTV system in the Octagon, Dunedin, on Tuesday.

A Dunedin City Council spokesman said contractors had been working to install two new city safety cameras in the area, bringing the total in the Octagon to 22.

"One of the new cameras provides a long-range view over the central Octagon, including a known trouble spot for late-night behaviour, and another camera was installed on the Civic Centre building, facing the Library Plaza, for the same reason," he said.

The council also had CCTV cameras in other parts of the central business district, as well as new cameras in George St and Albion Lane, he said.
