A house near Middlemarch is a "total loss" after rural fire today.
Crews are still on the scene of the blaze in a Mount Stoker Rd property after being first called about 10.40am.
The blaze started on a shed at the property, but spread to the adjoining house.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said the fire was under control.
"But it appears the house is a total loss."
Middlemarch and Outram crews are fighting the fire along with tankers from Wakari and Naseby, which were called because of a lack of access to water at the address.
