But most people looking at it in the Meridian mall, in Dunedin, yesterday were left scratching their heads.
Internet provider MyRepublic had ''pimped out'' the coffin in the build-up to Halloween.
Managing director Vaughan Baker said the coffin was the ultimate in online luxury, fitted with the best internet access for this world and the next.
The coffin would be on display throughout New Zealand during October, for people to ''test''.
Apparently, many people have been inquiring about buying it to use as a bed.
During the past few days, many young people have been climbing into the coffin to see what it would be like. One 17-year-old gave it the thumbs-up.
''It's a bit different from anything else I've ever seen. It's a cool idea.''
However, other people were less impressed.
One shopper, who declined to be named, complained: ''What - no air conditioning?''
Helen Cain, of Cromwell, said: ''Why would you want this if you're going to be dead?
''You go off somewhere else in the afterlife. You're not going to be sitting in here playing PlayStation.''
Another pondered the possibility of receiving a late-night email saying: ''It's me. I'm still alive. Can you dig me up please?''
She said she was about to go to the hospital to see some doctors about her health issues.
''I might have to come back here afterwards,'' she said.
Let's hope not.
