A lease is set to be signed for the South Dunedin pop-up hub, Dunedin City Council arts and culture group manager Bernie Hawke says.

Progress of the hub plans was announced during a community and culture committee council meeting on Tuesday, Mr Hawke said.

While details of the location and owners of the temporary hub site could not be announced, he expected the details to be available in a matter of weeks, he said.

A lease agreement would have to be signed before it was confirmed.

Work towards a community hub began in mid-2016, with the council consulting residents on their preferred location for a permanent hub, which is still under discussion.

Mr Hawke said once the pop-up hub was "up and working'', the council would be able to see what residents thought of the services provided at the hub and work towards securing a location for a permanent facility.

Funding for development of a South Dunedin community hub and library has been allocated in the DCC's 2018-19 annual plan.
