Laura Heselwood has run an event florist with clientele including Buckingham Palace and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts - and now she is turning her attention to Dunedin.

Mrs Heselwood, the latest iD Dunedin Fashion production manager, says the ability to work with everyone from the Queen's personal assistant to a flower seller in a London market will help in her new role.

The former United Kingdom resident took over event florist Hayford and Rhodes in London eight years ago with her two sisters, but in ''a classic story'' met her Kiwi husband Paul Heselwood when he was on his OE.

''He picked me up on the way through.''

''I promised him we would spend a number of years here to give the children a bit of a Kiwi taste of life.''

The couple moved to Oamaru with their two children, aged 6 and 8, and Mrs Heselwood worked remotely for her business in the United Kingdom.

Then they moved to Dunedin six months ago after her husband secured work at Calder Stewart.

Her new job would be as ''part of the machine'' at the March event, responsible for the overall production of the iD Fashion Show at the Dunedin Railway Station, and the iD International Emerging Designer Awards show.

Already she was liaising with designers submitting their applications.

The role also involved everything from working with subcontractors to casting models and to making sure people had accommodation and flights.

''I'm kind of the linchpin for a lot of different elements.

''We've hit the ground running, big time.''

Mrs Heselwood said she had managed a team of 30 staff at her London business, which won contracts with Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace and the Natural History Museum.

Those were ''massive events'' with an exacting timeframe.

The idea was ''just to create unforgettable events''.

''I think that's the similarity with fashion - it's creative and it's the spectacle.''

For next year's event, she planned to maintain the same standard as in the past, but in future ''I would love to introduce a bit more spectacle, to entertain.

''I think the fashion itself is amazing, but if you can create a magical environment ... ''Mrs Heselwood took over from Amanda Milne, who has moved to Dunedin Venues Management Ltd.
