Dunedin police are investigating a spate of thefts and attempted burglaries.
Acting Senior Sergeant Phil Hamlin, of Dunedin, said a Nissan Primera was stolen from Centennial Ave in Milton between 4am and 6am yesterday. The car had been locked and parked outside the owner’s home. In another investigation, the residents of a house in Bay View Rd returned home at 12.30am yesterday to discover their front door was unlocked and saw "a suspicious character looking at them from the bushes five or six houses down."
Nothing had been taken from the house but the residents were sure the door had been locked and suspected an attempted burglary, he said.
Police investigated the area but nothing was found, he said.
A caretaker discovered a damaged shed at Belleknowes Golf Club yesterday morning. Acting Snr Sgt Hamlin said someone tried to enter a shed at the club in Lawson St between noon Thursday and 7am yesterday.
The caretaker discovered "a door handle had been ripped off" the shed.
The shed had not been entered and nothing was taken. A Mercury 6hp outboard motor was stolen in Henley. The motor was stolen from a boat in a yard on a rural property in Henley-Berwick Rd between Friday and Wednesday, Acting Snr Sgt Hamlin said.
Senior Sergeant Ben Butterfield, of Dunedin, said a MacBook, makeup and posters were stolen from a student flat in Dunedin last Saturday.
The Hyde St flat was unlocked at the time of the burglary.
